Hello to all. My name is Layton Rosencrance. I live in Portland Oregon. I
started riding again 5 years ago after a 20 year hiatus for children,
career, etc. Started with a Yamaha 759 and went through two old BMWs. Then I
too decided to find something different. My first Guzzi was a Lemans IV. A
great machine but not 'someone my age' should know better. Or at least that
is what the State Trooper told me.

I switched to a more normal ride a California 1100i. Last summer I bought a
74 Police model Eldo from the classifieds. It turned out to be much more of
a project than I imagined. I have had a great time rebuilding it with a
friend of mine. Complete engine overhaul, almost everything else new and
finally two weeks ago, new white paint. It is quite a machine.

I vote for the logo " Life is better looped" This looks like it will be fun.

, and secondly is it possible to get the black/white handgrips
 anywhere?

Thanks,
Tim
FWIW, new repop black and white handgrips are supposed to be available
again
 in the fall.

Also, note to Dave O and anyone else that might be interested. Bad news on
new Gilardoni piston/cylinder sets for Eldos and Ambs. They will not be
available again until sometime after the August Italian "Holiday".

Hello Andy, all;

i'm in upstate ny, in the finger lakes, and have been hoping
valiently
 to
make the nats. my bike has been parked since april,'84. i bought it last
august, courtesy of the mgnoc classifieds, and after a long winter [no
heat
in the shop], well, this is how she turned out. [actually, i had'nt
added

the turn sigs., flh windshield, or decals at that point]-since done.you
have
 made my year, man! thanks!!

My pleasure Andy. What did I do again? :-)

I'm hoping this brief journey to Virginia will net a few of the east coast
rides I've missed at past rallies. I understand its difficult to get away,
but FWIW I'll have a full assortment of camera gear and (hopefully) I'll
get some nice Guzzi portraits done, so look me up. The idea is to get as
many nice machines shot as possible which should be a do-able plan, since
my only commitment this year is simply attending.

I'm missing a few (stock) models in my portfolio; the V700 and '76 Le Mans
850 to name two. Here's hoping I catch them in Virginia. Of course, its
alwasy a treat to shoot a tasty modified machine...your bike fits that
bill
perfectly Andy. Hope to see you there.

Nolan

OK, I will reintroduce myself. My name is Rich and my wife, my five year
old
daughter and myself reside in Brisbane, Ca. I have introduced myself and
gone
back into hiding (lurk mode) before. Well, it looks like I am closing the
deal on a '70 civilian Ambassador (in the original white color), ,46K, all
stock with the exception of a Windjammer fairing and Wixom bags. My
suggestion for logo/saying would be
LOOPFRAME ENTHUSIASTS over a 50% screened Moto Guzzi logo
with 'Life is just better when LOOPED' on the back
or 'We always ride LOOPED'
or 'Get LOOPED today'
I like the 'Ask me about my loopframe' as someone suggested also.
PICS and frame numbers coming soon.
Rich

Hi all you loopframe nuts.My name is Rich Marchand. My wife and I and
our 2 Labs reside in Monticello Indiana. This is my first and only
Guzzi (so far) a74 Eldorado.I bought it in 90 as a non running bike
with many problems,as I was to find out.At that time I had only heard
of Guzzi and never seen one before, but I was ready to try something
different. The bike has not had a full restoration, but has been pretty
well gone through mechanically.Recent improvements include..good paint
job,new tires,solo seat,new cylinders(chrome peeling on old ones),
valve job,new lifters ,new Dellotro carbs(had Amals) windshield from
Harper's and spotlights. This thing ROCKS !!! I am truly obsessed with
it.
I am new to this list,a couple of weeks, but have been on the MGCL for
a couple of years. Both lists have been a great source of info, and its
nice to know there other people that enjoy the loopframe styling, feel
and the symphony the engine makes.
The date of manufacture is September,1973,titled as a 74,serial
number 060921.I don't have a recent pic,but I could send an older
one.I'm looking forward to hearing more from this list and enjoy the
Loopframe site.
Keep on riding

I think asking for people to introduce themselves was a great idea- so is
this list.
My name is Paul Bacon and I live in Grass Valley, Calif. I bought my first
MG, a 1980 1000SP, new in 1982 and soon after joined the MGNOC. I put
nearly 70,000mi on the SP and had a wail of a good time, it suited my
riding style perfectly. Personal reasons forced me to sell the bike a few
years ago and I immediately started to have withdrawals. In April of 1999
I
finally was able to buy another Moto Guzzi, this time a 1973 Eldorado
(civilian). I found the bike on the MGNOC classified web site, flew to
Idaho to take delivery and rode it back to Grass Valley- a few inches of
snow on the ground, no windshield and nothing but smiles all the way home!
The loopframe Guzzi is truly a unique motorcycle. Since I acquired the
bike
I have rebuilt the carbs, installed Mac mufflers and windscreen (Mark's
Cycle) and had a custom seat made (in Sacramento).
The saying "when it rains, it pours" seams to fit- not long after I picked
up my Eldo a friend of mine called and asked if I could help her find a
good home for her late husbands 3 Eldorado motorcycles- no problem I say!
I
bought 2 of them and another friend bought the 3rd, a '74 police style. Of
the 2 that I bought I will keep one and finish restoring and the other
which is pretty rough but certainly restorable I would like to sell.
Well that's my story. Keep your wheels spinning and hope to see you at the
National Rally next year right here in Grass Valley!

Great idea these introductions....
My name is Chris Berry and I live in Lenoir, NC (gateway to the blue
ridge).
I rode dirt bikes as a kid, but never owned a street bike. In 1998, an
old friend I hadn't seen in a while commented that he really liked the '84
VW Rabit convertible I had...in fact he'd trade one of his bikes for
it...maybe even his Guzzi. Needless to say, Iwent and took a ride on his
'74 civ. Eldo....I was hooked from the start. He drove away in the
rabbit,
I got the bike...even trade!!! ($I had 2k in the rabbit) Awesome bike.
Mostly original, but has floorboards, 949cc kit,BUB'S, and Dellorto VHB
30's. The only problem is the jap wiring spliced in from a fairing it
once
had. Did I say that it is an awesome bike? I'v enjoyed the hell out of
it
learning the mechanics of Guzzi's and learning to ride again. Doubt I'll
ever make it to nationals, but I might pop up at a rally around the Blue
Ridge. Did I mention how killer this bike is?
Y'all have a good 'un

Hi Y'all,

I bought a 1966 Yamaha Twin Jet 100, in 1967, and sold it a year later.
Bought
a brand new 1970 Honda 450 Scrambler, sold it one month later for more
than I
paid. It vibrated too much. Then a guy moved into in down the street with
a
1971 Ambassador, pulling his full time residence, a 14' Puch self
contained
trailer. He wanted a new 850 Eldorado so he could have a side car to help
stabilize the bike when pulling the trailer. I bought his Ambassador for
$1400
since I could not afford a new 850 Eldorado, which was $2100 at the time.
Rissman Motors, Albuquerque NM was our dealer and I have photographs of
Dave
Miller, the previous owner, riding my bike, pulling his trailer. He
eventually
sold the Eldorado to a guy who wrecked it and killed himself on it.

In 1976 I blew a head gasket and pulled the heads, but let the bike sit
until
1984, when I rebuilt the engine. I rode it until 1992 when the
intermediate
plate warped and I could not get it out of gear. I pulled the clutch out
and
decided to overhaul the transmission, since it was whining, and decided to
put
in a five speed and Eldorado rear drive. In 1992 I bought a very rough
1972
Eldorado and found the transmission was no good and I let both bikes sit.

In January 1998 I felt the need to have a running bike, so I found a 1977
850
T-3. I hated the T-bikes when they came out in 1975, but somehow they have
grown on me. And besides, I still have my black Ambassador to look at in
the
garage, so it was not so bad.

The I really wanted to get a bike that ran. So I bought a 1998 EV in March
1999. Why couldn't they make a black EV with white stripes? I had to
settle
for gray and black. At least you can get a Jackal in Black and have the
stripes
painted on.

I got a used four speed from a friend, (two years ago), and put the
clutch,
intermediate plate and transmission back into the Ambassador. But the
clutch
cable is too short and it won't release completely. The same clutch cable,
battery tray and so on are back on the bike, the only thing that is
different
is the transmission. To even get the clutch cable to fit I have to unbolt
the
battery tray and use a vice grip to hold the cable end, and then I can get
it
into the slot. When I bolt the battery tray down, there is no free play. I
can
pull the clutch cable and turn the rear wheel and I can feel when the
clutch
releases and grabs, but there is just no free play.

I got frustrated with it and it is still in the garage where it has been
parked
against the wall, so I can get the other bikes into the garage.

Of course this is a non commercial request and is totally up to you. The
list will eventually be posted to the web site.

I invite all Loopframers to submit their bike's serial numbers.
