Hi Mike,
I wonder the same thing every day.
The bikes have been on the market since 1921 (the 2nd longest in history),
have an engine design that is unique to anything out there and a loyal
following that rivals the biggest manufacturers in the world. Yet, when I
talk to people...they've never heard of them. When I look in the
mags...hardly a mention. When I am on the road......never see one. Yet
people drool over my bike everytime they see it. Either they say "Moto
what?" or give a thumbs up.
My most recent memory was when I was recently hauling a Convert that I had
just purchased. I am tootin' through Rochester and this guy drives up and
gives a big thumbs up and mouths "Guzzi's the best". I love it!!
I suppose in some ways we should thank the company. If it weren't for their
terrible management in the 80's these bikes would have been everywhere.
Instead we are a rare and unique group of enthusiasts...riding one of the
most exclusive, original machines out there.
I feel privilidged.
OK....off the box now :-)

------------------------------------------------------------ Yesterday I changed the fork oil, installed a new throttle cable, lubed the cables, put in new spark plugs, and adjusted the steering-head bearings on my Ambo. Today I'm putting some miles on it. What a pleasant bike!! This old thing rides as good as the new machines, in my opinion (except the brakes, of course). Not as fast as the newer middle-weights, but just as torqey, handles well, and sounds nice, too. I can't see why Guzzi isn't a bigger presence in the motorcycle world (mismanagement, I presume). -Mike (69 Ambo) |
