Hey all,
I think I have my problem fixed with the Ambo quiting on me at idle. I
retorqued the heads, but before I did that, I checked the valve clearances.
The left side was EX .012, IN .004, right side EX .010, IN .060. This is
after a couple hundred miles on a newly rebuilt engine. After retorqueing the
heads and resetting the valves, I still had the exact same problem. Although
it wasnt doing the engine any good, it didnt seem to have any effect on the
problem. I then cleaned the carbs (for the 3rd time), refitted some spare air
screws and fiddled with them a lot. I also found the points did not have
hardly any gap on the fully open setting. This is what I suspect was causing
the trouble, with the additional cause of the air screws being misaligned to
try to compensate for misfiring. Any way, the ol' girl is running like a
champ again. Thanks for all the help.
